Editorial policy
How Breakthroughist reports, sources and corrects. Read our standards for evidence, independence, corrections and industry maps.
Evidence first
We report what has been demonstrated, under what conditions, and how it was measured. Claims about future capability are labelled as claims and attributed to whoever made them.
Sources
We prefer named sources and primary material: papers, filings, test data and recordings. We grant anonymity only when a source faces real harm for speaking, and we tell readers why it was granted.
Independence
Companies, investors and sponsors have no say over what we cover or how. No one outside the editorial team sees a story before it is published. Placement in our industry maps cannot be bought.
Conflicts of interest
Editorial staff disclose financial holdings in companies within their beat to the standards editor. Reporters do not cover companies in which they hold a stake.
Embargoes and announcements
We honour embargoes we have agreed to in advance. A press release or launch event is a starting point for reporting, not a substitute for it.
Corrections
We correct errors as soon as we confirm them. Corrections are noted at the end of the story with the date and what changed. Wire items are amended with a new timestamp.
Use of AI
Story illustrations are AI-generated and credited as such. Reporting and writing are done by our editors. AI tools may assist with research and transcription; every fact that reaches publication is checked by a person.
Industry maps
A company is listed when it is operating and has public evidence of a product or research programme. Each map shows the date it was last updated. Companies may request corrections to their listing, not placement.
