Cognex's In-Sight 3900 Kills the Speed-Accuracy Tradeoff
A new edge AI vision system runs inspections up to four times faster than its predecessor—without slowing the line.

Cognex Corp. has launched the In-Sight 3900, a fully integrated vision system designed to run demanding factory inspections at full line speed—powered by Qualcomm Dragonwing platforms and built on a new generation of the company's embedded AI architecture. [1]
The headline numbers are hard to dismiss. The In-Sight 3900 processes inspections up to four times faster than previous-generation Cognex systems, supports imaging resolutions up to 25 megapixels within a single acquisition, and uses a dual Ethernet architecture to stay in sync with PLCs, robots, and enterprise systems. [1]
At Fuji Seal, engineering manager Andrea Sabbadini says the system already replaced traditional OCR tools on high-speed packaging lines: the In-Sight 3900 allows deployment of Cognex's Edge AI Read tools at full production speed without compromising throughput. [1]
Factory vision has long forced a choice between depth of inspection and pace of production. What's shifting now is the assumption that embedded compute can't hold both demands at once.
When paired with Cognex OneVision, the In-Sight 3900 connects to a cloud-to-edge ecosystem that lets manufacturers train AI models centrally while executing inspections locally at production speed—eliminating the need for a PC on the line. [1]
The factory floor has become a proving ground for edge AI inference. Cognex is betting that deterministic, real-time decision-making at the machine—not the cloud—is where industrial AI matures. [1]
Manufacturers no longer have to choose between inspection depth and line speed. We have built a system that delivers both, with the reliability and simplicity Cognex is known for.Matt Moschner
