HyImpulse Eyes Oman as Its Middle East Launch Base

German small-launch provider HyImpulse has signed a letter of intent with Etlaq Spaceport, Oman's commercial launch facility, to explore future operations in the Sultanate — the company's first formal step into the Middle East. [1]

The agreement covers both the suborbital SR75 — which completed its maiden test flight from South Australia's Koonibba Test Range in May 2024 — and the orbital rocket SL1, targeted for first flight in 2027. [1]

[1]

The pattern is familiar: small launchers increasingly treat spaceports as a distributed portfolio rather than a single home base, matching orbital geometry to customer need rather than national flag.

Whether HyImpulse builds dedicated pads at Etlaq or simply passes through will depend on how SL1's first flights perform — and whether the customer manifest justifies the southerly detour. [1]
